Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically inserted into the jawbone to replace missing natural teeth. It generally takes 6 months for the surgical implant to heal before the final installation of the artificial tooth (crown) can be finished.
Implants can be used to secure a full set of removable dentures for patients who have no remaining natural teeth.
Dental implants are strong, stable, durable and virtually undetectable. They allow better chewing ability and are far superior to removable dentures. Dentures are a poor alternative to dental implants but in some cases, where finances are a primary concern, dentures may be the only alternative.
