Bridges replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge is a single appliance that is generally attached to two teeth on each side of the space where a tooth is missing. If a tooth is lost through an accident, or is too badly decayed to save with a crown, a bridge may be the treatment of choice. Unlike dentures, a fixed bridge is never removed. It is fixed in the mouth and works very similar to natural teeth.
Bridges should last for many years but there is no lifetime guarantee. As with natural teeth, it depends on good oral hygiene and oral health. Regular dental check-ups are advisable. Bridges require regular flossing and brushing, with extra attention around the margins where decay is more likely. Superfloss is advised for cleaning under bridges.
